Canadian singer-songwriter Elyse Weinberg got her start in the Toronto folk underground that birthed Neil Young and Joni Mitchell. Making her way to Los Angeles to visit Young, she shacked up with Cass Elliott of the Mamas and the Papas, whose friend Roy Silver signed her to Tetragrammaton. Backed by local band Touch, debut album Elyse placed medieval folk and psychedelic rock behind her raspy vocals, the unusual arrangements adding strings in places and even sitar. Despite reaching a respectful 31 on the Billboard charts, the glory faded when the label went bust, leaving Weinberg unmoored. A beloved lost gem, finally available again!
